Iran's Expanding Military Reach: Ballistic Strikes Target US-Aligned

Iran's Week-Long Bombardment of Jordan Raises Regional Tensions

Iran conducted an intensive barrage of military strikes against Jordan over the past seven days, deploying 119 missiles and unmanned aircraft systems, according to statements from Jordan's armed forces. The campaign—comprising 60 ballistic missiles and 59 drones—marks an escalation in Iranian military operations across the Middle East and signals deepening hostilities in a region already strained by competing power struggles.

Jordan's air defense infrastructure intercepted the vast majority of the incoming weapons, with defense systems destroying 108 targets and neutralizing an additional 11, according to military officials. Despite the heavy volume of fire, casualties remained relatively contained: fourteen service members and civilians sustained injuries, the majority described as non-serious.

The strikes underscore Iran's willingness to expand military operations beyond its immediate borders, specifically targeting nations hosting American military installations. Jordan hosts a significant U.S. military presence, including air bases and special operations forces, making it a logical target for Iranian retaliatory messaging.

The incident comes amid broader Middle Eastern instability, with Iran increasingly employing drone and missile attacks to project power and demonstrate military capability to both regional rivals and Western powers monitoring the situation closely.
